We are introduced to Timothy in Acts 16 at the very beginning of Paul’s second missionary journey. See Acts 16:1-5. Paul met Timothy and “wanted to have him go with him” and Timothy becomes a companion and fellow worker with Paul for the rest of his life!
Timothy was still a young man when Paul wrote 1 Timothy (see 1 Timothy 4:12) and therefore even younger when Paul met him and invited him to join with him.
Timothy joined with Paul and Silas and so he was likely close by during all the experiences we studied last week about Silas (including the Macedonian call and persecution and teaching the gospel in Philippi, Thessalonica, Berea and Corinth). Later we see that Timothy is with Paul on his 3rd journey.
How do you see Paul using Timothy in the following texts? Acts 17:14-15, 18:5; 19:21, 22; 20:4-6, 1 Corinthians 4:17, 1 Thessalonians 3:1-8, Philippians 2:19.
What does Paul say about Timothy that explains this trust? See Philippians 2:20-23.
What does Acts 16:1-5 also add about the character of Timothy that explains why Paul chose him to go with him?
Part two on Timothy will be posted Wednesday morning and we will review these lessons Wednesday night at 7 pm on Zoom and Facebook Live.
