Great Chapters – Isaiah 53

Isaiah 53 is a prophecy about Jesus. How is this proven in Acts 8:32-35? What in particular about Jesus does it prophesy?

Note verse 1: Isaiah 5:1 – “Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?”

a. “Who has believed our report?” is kind of a rhetorical question suggesting that few believe it. It is “unbelievable” to some. See how this verse is used in John 12:37-38. What about the report is “unbelievable”?

b. “To whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?” What does the arm of the Lord usually refer to in scripture? (See Deuteronomy 7:19 and Numbers 11:23 for examples). What does this chapter reveal about the arm of the Lord?

Isaiah 53 was written 800 years before Jesus. How many prophecies of Jesus do you see in the chapter?

Verse 10 says “It pleased the LORD (Jehovah) to bruise Him”. Why was God pleased by the suffering of His son? What does the chapter say specifically about the good that comes through the death of Jesus?
