This is another event that is recorded in all of the gospels: Read about it at Matthew 26:45, Mark 14:42, Luke 22:42, and John 18:1.
After regaining his strength through prayer in the garden of Gethsemane Jesus said the the disciples, “Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand” (Matthew 26:45-46).
For a little more about the background see Matthew 26:14-16 and 21-25.
Why do you suppose such a large multitude and detachment of soldiers came to arrest Jesus?
What do you think was the motivation of Jesus in betraying Jesus? Was it just the money?
What does Peter still not understand about the nature of Jesus’ kingdom?
What do you learn from the fact that Jesus voluntarily turned Himself over to the authorities?
